When is the best time to visit Naka Luxury Lodge?

The lodge is open year-round, but the best time to visit depends on your interests. For game viewing, the dry winter months (May to September) are ideal. For bird watching and lush landscapes, the summer months (October to April) are perfect.

What do the different seasons offer?

Each season offers a special experience at Naka Lodge. Summer is the time of thunderstorms, baby animals, and the transformation of the bushveld before your eyes. Autumn offers lush landscapes and beautiful photography opportunities. During winter, temperatures are comfortable, and game viewing becomes easier as the bushveld thins out. Spring is the season of moderate temperatures, excellent game viewing, and stunning sunrises and sunsets.

Is the lodge suitable for families with children?

Yes, Naka Lodge is family-friendly and offers activities and amenities suitable for guests of all ages. We provide special programs and services to ensure a memorable stay for families.

What should I pack for my stay?

We recommend packing comfortable clothing, sturdy footwear for outdoor activities, swimwear, sun protection, and a camera to capture the beautiful moments. Binoculars are also useful for bird-watching and nature drives.

Do you accommodate both leisure and business travellers?

Yes, Naka Lodge is the perfect location for both leisurely and business travel. We have a conference centre on-site for conferences and workshops and offer team-building experiences per prior arrangements. Check our corporate side.

What types of accommodation do you offer, and what is included in each option?

Naka offers a variety of villas and suites that can comfortably lodge up to two, four, eight, or ten people. Each room has en-suite bathrooms, private patios or balconies, and state-of-the-art amenities such as air conditioners, hairdryers, and safes. Our villas are all fully equipped for convenient self-catering. Check out our accommodation.

Are there family or group-friendly lodgings available?

Yes, our villas are perfect for family and group bookings. Our Starry Sleeper Villas can accommodate four people, the Naka Luxury Villa has ample room for eight people, and the Carina Deluxe Villa is fit for groups of ten people.

What sustainable or eco-friendly initiatives are part of your lodge’s design and operations?

We support the environment and aim to decrease our environmental footprint by engaging in sustainable practices such as using solar energy, purifying water through our own water treatment plant, growing our own fruits and vegetables, and having a recycling system in place.

What dining options are available at the lodge?

You can choose between self-catering in the privacy of your own unit or ordering delicious meals at Nebula Restaurant. Naka also offers a number of food-focused experiences that will get you in-tuned with our beautiful natural setting, good company, and mouth-watering delicacies.

Do you cater to dietary preferences or allergies?

We do cater to dietary preferences and allergies but request prior notice to ensure we make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Contact us if you have booked and require dietary preferences.

Can we experience traditional South African cuisine during our stay?

You can experience traditional South African cuisine and culinary practices with our Dining Under the Stars experience, which includes a proudly South African braai.

Are meals included in the package, or do we need to pre-book dining experiences?

We offer different dining options to ensure you have access to the best culinary experience. Our villas are fully equipped for self-catering should you choose to bring your expertise from home. Yes, our Black Hole Bar is stocked with a wide selection of drinks. We also offer wine-pairing experiences from our private collection of reserves and high-quality wines, paired with a variety of delightful dishes that have been specially prepared for a wonderful flavour sensation.

A visit to Naka includes one nature drive at the time of your preference (morning or evening) and our ecozone is always open for self-guided nature walks.

Are there additional paid experiences?

We offer a range of additional paid experiences that include stargazing, bee and animal interactions, tracking, fishing, and birding. For a full list of our experiences, feel free to visit our experiences.

Do you offer guided safaris or bush walks?

Naka’s ecozone is the ideal place for you to enjoy a guided or self-guided bushwalk that will allow you to fully immerse in nature. We also offer morning and evening nature drives across the rest of the reserve and along the banks of the majestic Limpopo River.

Do you have Big 5?

While our reserve does not have the full Big 5, we do have buffalo and the occasional leopard wandering through the veld. Naka is also home to a few unique species such as Golden Wildebeest and Black Impala, along with many other wonderful wildlife, including bushbuck, sable, honey badger, bat-eared fox, and eland. How do I get to the lodge?

The lodge is accessible via a 90 km dirt road from the nearest town. We offer transfer services from major airports and towns for your convenience. Detailed driving directions and GPS coordinates are provided upon booking. Get directions here.

Which airports or cities are closest to the lodge?

Our nearest large airport is O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. We also have a landing strip and a helipad on the property, 10 km from the lodge, which is available with prior arrangements. Our nearest big towns are Thabazimbi and Lephalale. Contact us to make prior arrangements.

What makes Naka Lodge eco-friendly?

Naka doesn’t only exist for the guests and community but for the environment as well. Our main focus is to bring you closer to nature and help you discover more about the beauty and harmony our natural world has to offer. We engage in several conservation-focused activities such as wildlife conservation and semi-off-the-grid living.

How does the lodge support conservation efforts and the local community?

We try to support and engage with the community as far as possible by providing job opportunities and creating a safe and supportive environment for learning. We also have a conservation manager at the lodge to ensure the bushveld and animals on our reserve remain safe and content.

Does Naka Lodge have backup power?

Naka Lodge uses a hybrid system of solar panels and municipal electricity to lower its environmental impact. We also have backup generators in case of emergency.

Is the water safe to drink?

Yes, the water at Naka Lodge is sourced from the rivers and boreholes on and surrounding the property and purified for safe drinking through the water treatment plant on the property. There are also water dispensers with purified water available around the lodge.

Are guests able to participate in any conservation activities?

Guests can engage with our conservation efforts by enjoying nature drives and guided bushwalks, and participating in our Secrets of Tracking and Hunting for Honey experiences.

Naka is a malaria-free area, but guests are still advised to be cautious to avoid mosquito bites by applying repellent lotions (available at the lodge).

Are there medical facilities available at the lodge?

The nearest medical centre or hospital is located approximately 120 km away in Lephalale. In the event of a medical emergency, it’s important that guests ensure they have appropriate medical aid or travel insurance coverage in place prior to their visit. Please note that the lodge is not responsible for covering medical expenses, and guests are advised to confirm that their insurance will provide coverage in case of an emergency.

What are the closest amenities?

There’s a police station, ambulance, hospital, shop, and pharmacy at Lephalale or Thabazimbi, the closest large towns. Lephalale will likely be the preferred.

Do you do tyres and repairs?

Puncture holes can be fixed at the lodge, but more severe damage and new tyres will have to be fixed at either Lephalale or Thabazimbi.

Bookings & Policies

What is your cancellation and refund policy for bookings?

We offer a full refund for cancellations made 90 days prior to arrival. Should you need to cancel your stay 60 days before the intended visit, a 50% refund will be offered and cancellation within 30 days allows for a 10% refund. Cancellations within 7 days or less of the booking date will result in no refund.

Is there a minimum stay requirement?

A minimum of two days is required for a booking, but we suggest a visit of three days or more for the most enjoyable experience.
